WILD GAME FOOD BANK TO BENEFIT BEYOND THE WALLS FOOD PANTRY IN LAKE COUNTY, FLA. BY PROVIDING WILD GAME DONATIONS FOR THOSE IN NEED
Fruitland Park, Fla. –Wild Game Food Bank (WGFB) is now coordinating wild game meat donations to help feed members of the Lake County, Fla. community in need. Meat donations will be distributed through Beyond the Walls Food Pantry (BTW Food Pantry) in Fruitland Park, Fla.
Insufficient protein is a great concern for those who face food insecurity, and WGFB is making an impact to combat. WGFB coordinates wild game meat donations and processing to provide a healthy meat supply to organizations, like BTW Food Pantry, who distribute meals or groceries to those in need.
“I learned of BTW Food Pantry at a recent outdoors expo,” explained Caitlin Meadows, Co-Founder and Managing Director of WGFB. “They were excited to hear of our organization and asked if we could help.”
The mission of BTW Food Pantry is to provide physical and spiritual nourishment to friends and neighbors who are in need. Community members are welcome to pick-up food at their Fruitland Park location Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11AM-1PM.
Baker’s Custom Meats in Oxford, Fla. will serve as the WGFB designated meat processor for this area. Since Baker’s Custom Meats is located in Sumter County, near the Lake/Sumter County line, WGFB hopes they will have hunter donations and community support from both areas, and that in time they will be able to benefit an organization in Sumter County too.
WGFB began operating during Fall 2013 in Polk County, Fla. In the first nine months of operation, WGFB raised enough meat to provide 5,100 servings to Polk’s homeless community and others in need.
“We are hopeful that Lake will see the same success as Polk, and that both outfits will thrive in the upcoming deer season,” said Meadows. “But luckily, we can accept hogs and other meat meantime.”
Support can be given in the form of meat donations, or tax-deductible fund support that pays for the necessary meat processing expenses. For more information visit http://www.wildgamefoodbank.com, E-mail WildGameFoodBank@gmail.com, or call (863)-845-6562.
